ODD RECORD CABINET
I was curious if anyone has seen a cabinet like this or has any information pertaining to a possible manufacturer, I picked this up at Stanton's last week, the odd thing about it is all the fabric used on it, the back has a fabric covering that appears to be original and the drawers are also lined with some type of velvet fabric which actually covers all sides and bottom including each individual cylinder peg, the cabinet top sides and drawer fronts are solid mahogany no veneer anywhere. It has steel ball roller casters. I got it pretty cheap, less that $300 including buyers premium. Anyone seen one like it? Thanks Larry

Congratulations~
I have seen cabinets with the cloth on the back. I would imagine it lets a certain amount of air around the records.

Hi Burdette, Thanks for your reply, So what would be the reason for air needed around the records? Have you seen cabinets with the fabric like this before? Thanks larryMisterOpera wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 6:54 pm Congratulations~

It would be appropriate to assume that it was built this way to prevent mold from growing on the records. Wax cylinders, or metallic soap compounds depending on our date range, are prone to mold and mildew. By designing the cabinet with airflow, it would inhibit the stagnation of moisture. Just my best guess.

That makes sense , at first I thought the mold on wax cylinders came with age but back in the day without air-conditioning I am sure humidity levels were high for a big portion of the year, Thanks for the replies.
