I assume that this is an EMG but can't be sure as I don't know much about them.

Yes, this is an Expert Senior with rather fine case and stand but with a slightly impaired horn which should make little difference to the excellence of the sound. The correct four-spring soundbox is sadly absent.

The front panel of the cabinet appears to hinge down. Is that for record storage? Would this be an electric motor version?emgcr wrote: Sun Dec 26, 2021 8:37 am Yes, this is an Expert Senior with rather fine case and stand but with a slightly impaired horn which should make little difference to the excellence of the sound. I'm not sure what you're seeing but no, there is no hinged flap or record storage on these machines. Record storage compromises sound quality!JerryVan wrote: Mon Dec 27, 2021 9:38 amThe front panel of the cabinet appears to hinge down. Is that for record storage? No hinges, there is a marqueterie decoration but otherwise the thing is solid. As to motors, this one has a crank on the side, so it is a spring motor. I have one that is powered electrically, both versions were sold.JerryVan wrote: Mon Dec 27, 2021 9:38 am

The spring motor is described as being by Collaro. There is no name plate, suggesting that this might be a fairly early example in the production run.
Here is a photo of the case of an identical example.

Thanks so much. It was the marqueterie pattern that had me fooled. Also, I apparently missed the image on the auction site showing the crank.CarlosV wrote: Mon Dec 27, 2021 9:57 amNo hinges, there is a marqueterie decoration but otherwise the thing is solid. Sold for a hammer price of £2,200. Buyer would have paid £2,998.60 after all expenses.

Thanks for the report Graham, I was too busy to follow it. Good heavens, that was cheap! As always, I wonder who bought it...emgcr wrote: Mon Jan 17, 2022 12:39 pm Sold for a hammer price of £2,200. Buyer would have paid £2,998.60 after all expenses.

Yes, very cheap, although the correct four-spring soundbox would add another £1,000 plus. Did I detect woodworm in the case ?
