Varnishing/blending the wood on a sanded Victrola motorboard

Post by RCA_victrolaboy »

Greetings to all of the Talking Machine Forum,

This forum has been so useful in my continued restoration of a VV-90 I have been working on. I've received kind regards from so many people and so much help on this project. On my previous post, this VV-90 cabinet of which I got for free had a motorboard "cavity" area full of rubber/latex paint that I had to scrape & sand off whereas I could get it back down to the wood. This operation has since been completed, and I am finally ready to attempt to fix the wood, shine it up, and wax the cabinet before I go off and purchase parts for the machine (of which some very friendly people have been helping me on that note, dimensions are a beautiful thing :D )
On the matter of the wood (there are also some areas like on the back of the top lid, the top-left of the left bottom door that could use some fixing), what do you all recommend in terms of how to do it, what to use and how long I should let it dry? I have read the Victor-Victrola page, and have taken a bit more work into sanding down to make it a bit smoother.

I understand that some people may look down on the matter of fixing up the wood, but I received this entire machine as just a free cabinet so I really don't have any other use than trying to make the cabinet look nice.
