front mount Columbia Horn with hanger chain question

Post by fmblizz »

Can someone tell me what makes this Ebay listing horn desirable?? Appears to be a 17 inch Columbia/Victor front mount horn with a hanger that has been painted gold yet it has an awful lot of bidding activity on it.. The elbow does looks to be different then most as far as the angle.

Yup, it's the elbow. It's for a Rigid Arm Victor machine. Those elbows are impossible to find in that condition. Almost every one has collapsed due to a weak design. The horn may be Victor also. Depends on whether or not the hanger arrangement is a homemade add-on. If it's a legit Victor horn, that also adds a lot of value.

I had not realized that the rigid arm mounting elbows were that lightweight.
Just looking at pics of those machines, I can understand why the elbows fail.
I learn something everyday here on the TMF.

The elbow in the listing is in remarkable condition both physically and cosmetically. A rarely found elbow indeed.

Somebody got a great deal. That elbow alone was worth much more.
