Canadian Craigslist Grafonola on wheels

Post by Damfino59 »

After seeing La Cah’s post I wandered on Craigslist Canada and found this Columbia School machine?

It is in Abbotsford, which for the purposes of CL very loosely falls into Greater Vancouver, BC. It is, however, some distance away, out through the Fraser Valley, along Highway 1. It is not a suburb of Vancouver, but it is closes enough that some unfortunate souls commute from there.

The odd gramophone has been listed on and off for quite some time.

Here's a pic.

School model? AKA "Pushmobile" it would seem. Image from Columbia Phonograph Companion Volume II, Robert W. Baumbach, Stationary X-Press, 1996.

Slightly different cabinets. Louvers are horizontal on one, vertical on the other, as well.

Having moved more than a few cabinet gramophones in my time, I can see the advantage of those big wheels.
Never mind school. Roll it into the garden to accompany afternoon tea on the terrace and impress (or annoy) the neighbours.
