What I feel is the BEST recording by Polk Miller and His Old South Quartette on 4 minute Amberol Cylinder: "The Bonnie Blue Flag". This one is in nice condition and plays fine start to finish. Has its original Edison Amberol box and matching lid (some missing label pieces but the title and credits are mostly there). Packed securely. Ships USPS Media Mail which is an additional $4 for USA address. PM with interest. Here is a link so you may see (and hear) a video with a recording featuring the same selection posted on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhCDI7IkaZY
Interesting notes on the recording: Polk Miller pronounces "Southern" which most of us today pronounce as "SUTH-ern" as "SOW-thern". On the very LAST note of the recording Miller plucks the banjo string VERY strongly. I've always felt that he ended the recording on that extra loud banjo note as his personal signature on the song. It gives the recording an impressive ending. I've always enjoyed the recording. The lyrics are some of the most emotive of any song recorded.

Gunnar--there's a 1914 Blue Amberol which has been duplicated & re-released by Edisonia Records, if you ever needed to get a "playing" copy and hang onto this rare black wax record as a collector's piece.
The O.S.Q. is pretty awesome--I like "Oysters & Wine at Two A.M." and "Jerusalem Mournin'," too. Good luck finding those (I listen to them on YouTube.)

Oh, there is? Might shoot for that instead, I fear the Minnesota climate would destroy an Amberol quickly.VanEpsFan1914 wrote: Thu Feb 03, 2022 8:08 pm Gunnar--there's a 1914 Blue Amberol which has been duplicated & re-released by Edisonia Records, if you ever needed to get a "playing" copy and hang onto this rare black wax record as a collector's piece.

Get both. Wax is good for collecting and resin for listening.

All 4 wax Amberol Polk Miller records were also released on Blue Amberol. There are several 2 minute cylinders too, but they were never reissued on cylinder.
I don't know if there are any left, but one of our members compiled a CD of all the known Polk Miller and/or Old South Quartet recordings, including many post-Edison discs. You can find more info here:

Again, I worry about the cylinder surviving in my climate- and also don't really see the point of having more than one copy.VanEpsFan1914 wrote: Thu Feb 03, 2022 9:39 pm Get both. Wax is good for collecting and resin for listening.

I've decided to keep this cylinder anyway. This title is much more difficult to find on wax Amberol and plays better than my Blue Amberol versions (I have at least 3 copies on Blue Amberol).
