Wanted: Crane for Columbia BG

Post by UpstateNYBilly »

Hey Folks
Would anyone out there happen to have an after-market crane set up for a Columbia BG? Or a lead? I'm okay with a repro until the real thing comes along. Need a crane to support a paneled flower horn.

Thanks a lot!

Yes! This is great! I didn't see it when I did a search before posting this. It will work just fine until I can find an original. Thanks so much, George!

Unfortunately, George... according to the seller on Ebay that particular crane set-up won't work for the BG. It's for smaller models. He very kindly pointed that out to me after I purchased it and refunded my money before the transaction ever went through. Talk about integrity!

Back to the drawing board!

Sorry to hear that. However, I'm not at all surprised at Justin's integrity.

Best of luck in your search - -

Hi Bill

Unfortunately my base strip is also too small since you need 11 inches. It looks like a simple strip of 3/16 thick metal, 1 inch wide with a curved end is all you need to make Justin's crane work for you. You would have to drill the hole in the other end so that it you can screw it to his base mount at the proper length. I have included 2 pictures of the original crane that I have to sort of show you what I mean.. I would think you could get the metal strip at a home depot or hardware store for a couple buck... To make the bend, just put about ¾ inch in a vice and heat the hell out of it before you start to pull on it to accomplish the bend. Throw a coat of paint on it and your good. Only the very tip is visible once you mount everything if you mount it from the back instead of the front. Depending on your horn length this is a definite possibility. You could possibly also try to get away with using aluminum which would be a lot easier to work with as far as bending the end and drilling.

Did you inquire with Justin about making a larger base piece... to meet your needs. Should be very simple for him I would think. Here is his direct e-mail. "Justin Shaub" <[email protected]>

Let me know how you make out.
