Custom Columbia

Post by JeffR1 »

Apparently the cabinet was so far gone, the guy made a new one.
I would have liked to have seen the top motor board mitered into 4 sections, and the horn's main colour painted with an air brush or sprayer, but not an artist brush where one can see brush marks.

At least the birds-eye maple wasn't made into a clock !

Did Columbia ever produce a horn with all those fanciful flowers ?

The listing states "all parts are original except the case". They may be original, but not all by Columbia.
The only Columbia part I recognise is the c1930 British No.15 soundbox in chrome :!: .
The gooseneck tonearm is of HMV/Victor pattern and was protected by patents in c1910.
The glass panels in the case make the machine look like a Crapophone, albeit an expensive one.

Columbia turntable, motor and brake maybe but as epigramophone has said the soundbox is a chrome late model, not from the same period as the original machine. I'm sure the back bracket isn't Columbia and the tonearm appears to be a Victor type?

It's therefore a Frankenphone! If it was completely original it'd be expensive at the price. As it stands the price is unrealistic and very hopeful.

Still... a very nice "fantasy" piece.

I think the price is a little high.... but I would definitely add that to my collection. I dig the horn... the artist did a good job with those flowers.
