COLUMBIA BY CABINET CURIOUSITY
I just acquired this BY and cabinet, my question is has anyone seen this type of base adapter ? Was this an item that an after market company made or just something a skilled carpenter made for this machine? The base transition is made of solid mahogany and is serpentine to the exact shape of the BY. The BY has guide boards attached to it that nest into the transition to keep it secure. Another odd thing is the record cabinet is oak . The BY and the transition are both equally alligatored with age as is the record cabinet. When you lift the machine off its adapter the varnish on top of the record cabinet is nice and glossy just like under the lid of an upright phonograph that was always kept shut never being exposed to sun light. I am convinced the three pieces have been together for a very very long time , perhaps since they were new , but was it a homemade combination or did a cabinet company provide?
