SOLD: Reginaphone 600 - $75

Post by dale h »

At least that is what I think it is.
The kindest thing you can say about this Reginaphone is that it appears to be complete, except for the key. It looks like it spent a few decades in a chicken coop - bird droppings all over it. All of the metal parts are rusted and some veneer delamination. If you are interested in a challenge, this one's for you. The pictures below were taken with the lid removed because it wouldn't fit in my car with it in place. I have since reattached it and the support is also there. Located in Jonas, PA, about 15 miles north of Allentown.

Apologies up front for a "discussion" reply rather than a purchase, but...

First, an observation: we've had Gourdophones elsewhere, but this is the first time I've seen a Guanophone. :o

Second, that reproducer arrangement is interesting: it appears to be fixed for vertical cut records, no option for playing laterals and apparently no provision for substituting an adapter. Did Regina issue any verticals? Or did it have an arrangement with Pathé or one of the Pathé emulators? I've never seen anything quite like it.

Are those two pieces on the side, near the volume control, some sort of electrical terminals?

I believe it would adjust to play laterals & verticals. A VERY hard tonearm to find. I believe it's a suitable tonearm for inside horn style Reginaphone music boxes as well.

No, they are push buttons. Their purpose escapes me at the moment, however. I will try to remember and post when/if I do.

I really don't know much more about it than you do. It was part of a package deal with another machine that I wanted. But yes, I believe it is intended for vertical cut discs.

A very hard tone arm to find you say?

Maybe I should be asking for more money....

The buttons on the side are to start and stop it, I'm pretty sure---have not seen mine in a number of years (buried in back of other machines).

Yes, now that you mention it, that is what I have read.

So it is a nice parts machine for sure and I will buy it if it is still for sale.
Email [email protected] if you would like to sell it.
Thanks,
Mark
