Large Columbia possibly available for sale UK

Post by JenniferJM »

A friend approached me about this large Columbia which may be for sale in the UK. I have too many machines already! Any interest? Looks in good condition.

Very Nice !! Do I see a Viva Tonal decal, tonearm and sound box? if it were here , I'd make room for it. But already know it would be outside my budget after all is said and done.

It is a UK Columbia Console Model No.153a (Oak) costing £14.10s when new in 1929.
It features the Plano-Reflex tonearm, No.9 soundbox and "Stereoscopic" horn.
Unfortunately horizontal cabinet machines are unpopular because of the floor space they require.

I had some of the guts out of one of these once; it had been put into a different cabinet from an "assembled" unbranded gramophone.

These have a bifurcated horn that's absolutely fascinating. Whoever gets it will have something which sounds very good.
