This link appeared on Facebook Antique Phonograph Society. The device uses a laser to read a wax cylinder. I would love to have that copy of Hello Ma Baby. Pretty amazing.

Can't believe anyone would be disappointed by an early commerical brown wax. That sounds pretty incredible.

The laser makes it quite resourceful to dodge the mechanical obstacles like a missing chunk. There is a machine made in France years ago, called the Archeophone, that also has mechanical adjustments to play different diameters but is based on a phonograph needle.
