WANTED: Victrola Credenza auto brake springs
One always wonders how these things happen. Does anyone have/know of a source for these springs? Thanks!

Not very proper, but as a temporary solution it works. Take the springs of old click-clack ballpens. From different brands they may have different springs, stronger or weaker... Just cut them to the desired length, and form the end loops using small pliers.
Another temporary substitute is a rubber band of adequate size.

Thanks, Inigo! I haven't owned a click-type ball pen in years. I'll have to look around.Inigo wrote: Thu Apr 07, 2022 6:55 pm Not very proper, but as a temporary solution it works. Buy a bunch of cheap ones in your local stationery or supermarket. The ideal thing is what I do. I keep the pieces of old ones from my children ina box. One never knows when you'll need a little spring... The best is to have a collection of different ones, that may have different springs!

A man repairing phonos needs to keep a box of small odd things taken from here and there... old ball bearings from door wheels, rests of video players, old ballpens, small rare washers (metal, plastic, fibre or whatever), pieces of felt, lots of small bits from everywhere, screws and nuts from every kind ...

I bought an assortment of springs of different sizes at Harbor Freight for a few bucks. Will probably last me a lifetime.

You may be better off just buying a whole working brake assembly rather than try to play with dozens of tiny springs and positions. These can't be all that hard to find.

That was plan B. I'm not sure of the appropriate strength of replacement springs, and I know these auto-brakes can be finicky.52089 wrote: Fri Apr 08, 2022 11:29 am You may be better off just buying a whole working brake assembly rather than try to play with dozens of tiny springs and positions.
