Well my friend is from Canada, and said most of Victor’s early records aka: Pre-dog Monarch and pre-bat wings were pressed in Canada, not Camden NJ.
I could understand playing records from say the 20’s & 30’s would not be good. However I thought the early Victor and Monarch records would be ok? I thought it’s just a lower cost machine with a smaller platter?

Your friend has been misinformed, and apparently on several topics. Your Victor 0 should play 10" records with no trouble.

It could be true if it's 10 plays with the same needle!gramophoneshane wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 8:35 pmKind of sounds like BS to me.Edisonfan wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 7:08 pm
I was told I shouldn’t play the 10 inch records, as they will get damaged after 10 plays.
I don't understand how this could possibly be true.

You need a better source of info. No problem on the spindle hole. The screw down clamp is a cool very early attribute, but it was long gone by the time your O was built. And the VICTROLA No. 2 soundbox was made to improve the sound of Victrolas during the Victrola era, long after front mounts and rigid arms were gone.Edisonfan wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 7:08 pmI was told I shouldn’t play the 10 inch records, as they will get damaged after 10 plays. Also, something about the spindle hole being the wrong size, and that I need a machine with a screw down spindle. Also, he mentioned something about the No. 2 soundbox being made for use with ridged front mount arms. All, I know is that the 10 inch record that I played is a pre bat wing one.JerryVan wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 6:46 pm Just curious, is there a reason why 10" records won't work on your O? I'll admit, given the size of the O, 7" & 8" records look nice on its turntable, so I totally "get it" if that's your reasoning. Anyway, hope you're enjoying your new machine!
Wind it, play it, and enjoy it. The O was made until 1920 if memory serves, and yours is a later one if I'm not mistaken. Of course it can play 10" records. It probably won't have enough spring power for a 12", though. Don't let anyone spoil your enjoyment.

Thank you George! Yea, a lot of what he was saying, just didn’t make a lot of sense.phonogfp wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 10:08 pm Your friend has been misinformed, and apparently on several topics. Your Victor 0 should play 10" records with no trouble.

That’s why I change mine, after every play! Wouldn’t make much sense to have a machine play certain records. The only records I won’t play on it. Are the 40’s and 50’s.
