New acquisition, Columbia BK Jewel

Post by audiophile102 »

This is my first foray into the world of cylinder photographs. It was very dirty when I received it and it needed a new belt. After a good cleaning and oiling, it worked fine. The lid is slightly smashed in on top and I doubt that anything can be done to repair it. The horn that came with it is very large and missing most of its paint. I don't have a crane for it, so I used a rope and a hook in the celling to hear it play. The crank is from an Edison, but it works fine. I only have one 2-minute cylinder to play, (a march) which I'm not particularly fond of. Hopefully, I will come across one I enjoy this summer. Regardless of its short comings, the price was right and I thought it would be fun to add it to my collection. Thanks go out to my good friend Roger Merenkov who has guided me through the antique phonograph world and suppled the leather belt for this BK.
