Dictaphone Shaver Question

I am shaving some dictaphone cylinders on my shaving machine, but the swarf is shooting up instead of down into the drawer. It's very messy! Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? The mandrel is rotating toward the front of the shaver. Seems if it went the other way, the swarf would shoot down.

What shaving machine? On some if the belt is reversed it will cause this.

It's a Dictaphone model 7. I discovered a pyramid shaped piece that is supposed to hang near the cutting head to direct the swarf down. It seems to help, but since a screw is missing, it's not as effective. I need to check into this more.
