Is this needle big enough ?

Am I missing something here or is this needle a tad on the large side ?

It does seem to fit the soundbox 'chuck' though ????

Looks like maybe a thorn needle? They are kind of long, aren't they?

This reminds me that when I was a kid and ran out of needles, as a substitute I used to "borrow" some of my Mothers' dressmaking pins, and cut the round heads off. They were very long, very flexible, and very quiet! They don't seem to have done the records any harm, as I still have most of them 60 years later!
