I was thinking that an early Victrola X with the early speed control, vertical record storage, and a skinny tone arm should have an Exhibition reproducer. I was also assuming that a Victrola 2 with its larger diaphragm would sound a bit better than an Exhibition if both were in equal condition. Jerry Blais

I've used both on a VV X. The Exhibition is correct but the No 2 works well and does no damage. The one on this machine may have been replaced during the period, I'd consider it appropriate enough.

Henry, That was an interesting article. I didn't realize that the performance was so close between the Concert, Exhibition, and Victrola 2. I assumed the larger diaphragm and more modern design of the Victrola 2 would give it the edge. Jerry Blais

If I ever get my hands on a no. 2 (donations cheerfully accepted!) I would like to try it on my XI. Oftentimes, subjective evidence trumps the cold objectivity of technology!

From my experience, I think the No. 2 has better "lows" and sounds a
bit richer than an exhibition.
