Thanks for posting, Andy. Interesting information, and it includes some of my favorite needle types. However, these days, I'm mostly using your BCNs. :rose:
Best regards ... AZ*

Dearest Andy, thanks a lot for adding this file to the Acts of our trifling but fierce Club! 8-)

I will print and comfortably read with care this chapter, however I immediately rushed to the famous needle N° 142 - about which we have spoken so frequently - but only to find out that an added mass towards the tip tends to increase the volume of the reproduction for reasons which we cannot go into here. Which leads us again to the point that there seem to be no real scientifical explanation as why these needles work at all. Will we ever know? :geek:

The document portraits many needle types that I've never happened to see, like the "revolver" style needles with numerous tips all around.

I wonder if The Art and Science of the Gramophone as a whole still is an interesting reading for todays collectors, and if a full scan is available somewhere.

Wonderful, glad to hear it! The only trouble is, they last so long that few people ever need to re-order... but fine by me! 😄

I don't know - I found it an enjoyable read. Forgive me if I don't prepare a PDF of the whole thing! Maybe a cheap original copy can be found. I find some original text books are expensive, some aren't.
