My latest you tube offering is George Olsen and his music playing "Its only a paper moon"

Very nice, thanks. I still decry the prevalence of You Tube entries here (though this has nice sound) for the simple reason that one cannot download the mp3s (easily, or at all?) as when one just posts a download link on box.net or wherever. Perhaps one can do both?

So, is there an iconic version of this beautiful tune? I have only one, which I suspect is not common: Hal Kemp's with Skinny Ennis, vocal on Brunswick.

No problem.

Adam - here is a link to the MP3 of this. Its not a finished transfer as it was just a quick one I did to put up on my facebook page for some friends to have a listen to. Unfortunately my main pc hard drive died yesterday and so the original wav file is now lost as I hadn't gotten around to backing it up yet. So this transfer is a bit rough and ready and I can't do another until my pc issue is solved (ie a new one purchased) and I'm just running with my note book pc at the moment.

It's only a paper moon - George Olsen

Isn't the Whiteman version supposed to be the best?

So far I like the Hal Kemp version best, and Whitemans the least.
You'd think with all the major labels releasing this song, it'd be a lot easier to find a copy but I've never found it on any label in over 30 yrs of collecting. I haven't even seen Ella Fitzgerald or Nat King Coles versions

As far as 78's, I have a Benny Goodman version, and one by The Pied Pipers and I think that's it.

A look over Wikipedia lists a surprising variety of people who've recorded it. From Adam Ant to Miles Davis, as well as the usual suspects, like Sinatra and Ella and Nat Cole.
