Edison Concert with Bettini attachment

Post by jazzsammler »

Hi all

I bougth this nice Edison Concert no 23832 with Bettini Attachment several months ago , on a Swiss online Platform ( just like Ebay ) .
I has been rescued in the 1980s from the skip and then spent the last 40 years in the attic, the First owner whas quite a prominent figure in switzerland, so no wonder he got such a special machine.
I actually dont know much about it , my main focus is on Gramophones rather then Phonographs . i wonder what modell R on the Bettini attachment means whas it a common model ?
I migth sell it this fall on Ebay whats a good starting price for an rarity like this . It comes with some accesories i think one is a shaver . Unfortunatly i dont have the adapter for the large Cylinders ,
does anyone know where to get one.

Thanks for any response
Martin from Switzerland

The Bettini type (r) was the recorder. In any case, wonderful find. Lucky you!

Marin,

The Bettini "R" is generally listed as a recording head, with the "N" being the reproducing head. Interestingly, your "R" is set up with a reproducing, not recording stylus. Here are a couple pages from a Bettini catalog that will provide additional information on your specific Spring Motor phonograph.

I wasn't aware any recorders existed!

If I were to guess I believe someone (long time ago) replaced the recording head with a reproducing (playing) spider.
Its a nice set up and impressive machine.
