FOUND APM vol 7 #6

Post by fmblizz »

Looking for a copy of the Antique Phonograph Monthly Volume VII No. 6 Date unknown.

I am researching an early Universal Talking Machine record and George Paul has an excellent article in that issue.

Would appreciate any help in acquiring and issue,,,, Also a PDF file is fine with me.

Thanks in advance.

Blizz,

That article was published in 1983, and I'm pleased that it may still be of some use. That said, I (and many others) was misled by the dates published on the masthead of The Phonoscope, which suggested that Universal/Zonophone records (and machines) appeared in 1899. They didn't.

The Zonophone machines didn't appear until late March/early April 1900, and the discs shortly thereafter. There's an article in the June 2019 issue of the APS magazine that clearly outlines the U.S. introduction of Zonophone machines and records, with carefully footnoted period documentation.

The dates cited in the 1983 article for the 1901 and later Zonophone discs remain accurate as far as I know.

Best,
George P.

Thanks for the response Mark and George.. I will definitely follow up on the archive line and the June 2019 issue of APS. I'm hoping that the APS will be available as well on line.

As I responded to Gary via Private Message, since the old (current) APS website was hacked last summer, the search function has not worked. However, we're within days (truly - it could be today for all I know, but it's imminent) of an all-new interactive APS website. At that point APS members will have access to all back issues of the magazine (along with 30,000 other pages of documents dating from 1890-present). Even an opt in/opt out membership directory!

I had an inquiry regarding the upcoming APS membership directory, and I want to make it clear that it will be opt in/opt out. Inclusion will be purely voluntary. No one needs to be included who doesn't wish to be.

Best to all,
George P.
