Hi all,
Picked up a Victor VV-VI over the weekend. Exhibition reproducer. Seller demonstrated it and played great. Got home and replaced the needle with a soft tone… only ones I have since I mostly have Orthophonics… and now for some reason it sounds horrible. Seems like the needle is riding extremely light in the record grooves. Really only way I can explain it.
Would soft and loud tone needles make such a difference in a machine like this?

I assume you have checked that the needle screw turns in far enough to grip the thinner soft tone needle firmly.

Re: Victor VV-VI sound issues
I must have came across a few bad or used needles in my stock because I found some new loud needles in another phono… installed one… and now plays just as good as when I bought it. Appreciate the replies!
