Never seen before (here in Europe)... Must be extremely rare...

I think they are pretty rare.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if they are more common in Europe than in the U.S.

I've never seen one in person, myself.

the Pathé master cylinders where much larger in diameter and lengh than the comercial concert cylinders they where also quite a bit faster up to 200 rpm with reduced speed it was possible to record up to 8 min

just before the germans invaded france they where moved to a save location (as was most of france's cultural heretage)to be hidden before the germans could get them after this there's no mention of them they are probably lost
many of the high officials at Pathé at the time where jewish
the recorings of the 1940s where taken from transcription disc copies of the master cylinders those still exsist

the wax of wax cylinders was used by both sides to water tight pack parts of radio and other electric equiptment they would mix it with parafin and mould the paper packages in a thick layer of this material even when emerged the parts wouln't get wet
i bet many remaints of wax cylinders are now safely garding their contents at the bottom of the ocean

Le rabotage des cylindres Paradis dans les ateliers de Pathé à Chatou. Après 1913, ces cylindres de grande taille étaient utilisés par Pathé pour graver les originaux. Leurs caractéristiques : diamètre 20 cm, longueur 22 cm (comme les cylindres Céleste), autorisaient une durée d'enregistrement pouvant atteindre 5 minutes à 160 tours/mn.

Planing of Paradise cylinders in the workshops of Pathé in Chatou. After 1913, these large cylinders were used by Pathé to burn the originals. Characteristics: diameter 20 cm, length 22 cm (as Celeste cylinders), allowed a recording time up to 5 minutes at 160 rpm.
