Export Xa at auction in Germany

Post by Ahmed »

Seems to be in very decent shape at a quick glance.

Is it me, or is the horn detaching a bit at the bell?

Isn't that a 10B Oversize Tropical model?

The narrow knuckle where the exposed casting meets the papier appliqué is usually only found on Mk X or Xa horns. Xb and Xb Oversize generally had a wider knuckle.

I have a Xb horn with the narrow knuckle myself, but it's the only one anyone I know has seen.

A 28 inch final diameter indicates a Xa.

The description says it comes with a four spring soundbox, but the one shown only appears to be two.

It appears the papers are separating at the bell of the horn? Otherwise looks rather nice.

The sound box looks like an Astra No. 6 which has two springs but a guard like the four-spring EMG, which no doubt accounts for the mistaken description!

Very well spotted! You're quite right, although how much difference that'll make to the ultimate price remains to be seen.
