I never thought of doing that, but the idea certainly has merit.

I agree.

In the first photo you can see the height adjustment knobs (also clearly seen in the second pic), and the narrow table top that the machine is sitting on.
It appears the cabinet overhangs the table top at least a couple inches both front and back.

I'm not sure how stable it would be cranking the spring motor, especially since the whole set-up is most likely still on easy to maneuver castors or wheels.
Perhaps the cabinet base is screwed to the table top, and is why the feet overhang the surface?
That would make it a pretty sturdy set-up that could easily be turned or moved around to suit any listening position in the room.

Looking at the condition of the carpet in the photos, if it is as crinkled at it seems, I would imagine trying to slide the table around might be rather fraught! Definitely some extra steadying hands would be an advantage.
