Odd Columbia flag label

Post by jboger »

I picked up two boxes of records recently at a rural auction because there were about 6 Columbia flag labels in it. Nothing special about the label, but for some reason I like finding them, I guess because I run into them far less than the Victor batwing label, which I see all the time. I've uploaded a photo of just one side. The red is missing in the ribbons. Why? Did Columbia have more than one version of the flag label or did the red color simply fade away? I lean toward the latter explanation The other side is the usual, colorful label. This is the only one I've seen like this.

It doesn't look to me like there was ever any red printing. I don't think I've seen one like it. It may just be an "oddball". Nice snag though!!! Congrats.

Thanks.

I had never heard of Edith Wilson before until this record. She has a Wikipedia listing. That's one of the great things about finding these old records. They're a gateway to the past. I dug around some more to find out who "Alabama Joe" was: Roy Smeck. One of the sides has a great guitar solo.
