Gramophone Cinema

Post by phonophan79 »

Hello all -

Well, I am very excited because I have been looking for one of these for years but they always went out of my price range... but I finally got one at a decent price.

Here's a video, enjoy!

 I'm jealous
I've wanted one of these for years too, but I've never seen one turn up here. Normally these gramophone toys go for 5 times as much as in USA anyway, so I doubt I could afford one if it did turn up.
I've always wondered if the Feix & Charlie imaged were used under licence.
Congratulations!

Very nice! I've never heard of one of these. This looks like a remake of a late 19th century device called a "Zoetrope", which operated on the same priciple, but was drum shaped instead of disc shaped.

I especially liked Felix. I'm still a fan of his :)

I like the "travelling head" disc ( last one )...

Very, very neat !

I like the gloriously simple method of making the slit/shutter disc rotate in the opposite direction from the turntable & picture disc... I wish I were that clever !

Years ago is was common for Jerry Madsen to set up at Union. I think he flew to the show and his trunk was always filled with wonderful smalls at very reasonable prices. I seems like I made a fun purchase every time I passed his table. I bought many NOS tins and dusters as well at a vintage Magnetic Dancers and Gramophone Cinema still in their unopened boxes. Great memories! Jerry Blais
