This opera includes some memorable arias, yet to the best of my knowledge no DVD recording of it exists.
If I could only keep one of my many Caruso records it would be the 1906 "M'Appari".

I seem to have some records from Martha (Marta ?) - I could only readily find 10 of my HMV DM Series - but there were two there !epigramophone wrote: Wed Nov 09, 2022 1:16 pm This opera includes some memorable arias, yet to the best of my knowledge no DVD recording of it exists.

Maybe your favourite one will be with the others ?
I must admit I haven't listened to them yet.

M'appari was originally recorded on 11th February 1906 (Matrix C-3100) and issued as G&T 052121 and Victor 88001.
When HMV began issuing their Red labels in double sided form it appeared on DB159.
Caruso re-recorded the aria on 15th April 1917 (Matrix C-3100-2).
Confusingly Victor issued it with the same 88001 catalogue number as the 1906 version. It was not issued in the UK.
When Victor and HMV re-issued some Caruso titles with superimposed electrically recorded orchestral accompaniment the 1917 M'appari was chosen. It was issued in 1932 as HMV DB1802 and Victor 7720.
I still do not understand why this lovely opera set in Tudor England is not available on DVD.

Worth noting, Martha was written to a German libretto; although generally known to us in Italian, "M'appari" then would more properly be "Ach so fromm." (The Wikipedia article about the opera suggest a few complications surround the aria in that regard, but I gather German is the probable candidate.) In my own collection, recordings in Italian overwhelmingly outnumber those in German, but a few in the latter language are present: Peter Muller on Pathé and Andreas Dippel, Benno Haberl, and Jacques Urlus on Edison (2 minute cyl.; wax amberol; and diamond disc, respectively). I actually have more in French, three on Pathé and one each on Victor and Emerson.
Shifting gears, I once puzzled out how the Victor series of Act II "quartet" recordings with Alda, Caruso, Jacoby, and Journet fit together, and here's what I determined: Parts 1-3 are the bulk of scene 1; part 4 is from scene 3.

Just trying to explain to Arthur what a DVD is.
