It's a 511 - the tonearm / soundbox / internal horn conversion of the 510 Lumiere diaphragm machine, although with that said, this is a later example manufactured as a 511 so the cabinet never started life as the 510.

Not sure of the asking price, but it looks to be in very good condition, even the top of the lid.

These were great little performers, on par with the Consolette -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u7DXznyt8o (I love the elongated horn.)

I agree entirely and would just add that as I've owned several 511s as well as the 162, 192 and 201, in my opinion the 511 is THE very best machine HMV made with a No. 4 soundbox. The reproduction is incredibly good.

Somebody please don’t walk, run and pick this up.

Has the quadruple spring motor like the high end Victrola’s. A large saxophone type HMV horn. No record storage but that’s why the horn is so large. :D

Just imagine a HMV 101 multiplied by the 10th power.

Just to correct one point: it doesn't have a saxophone horn in the true sense of the word like the 161, 162, 171, 181, 191, 192, 201 and 211 models where the horn drops down to the bottom of the cabinet and then curves upwards 180 degrees to an aperture behind the doors. In the 511 the principle idea behind the exponential horn is the same but it is a one off unique design made purposefully to fit that size and shape of cabinet, similar to the smaller 156 or the larger 261 Horizontal Grand.

Thanks for the updated info on the Horn layout Steve.

I should of consulted with my HMV book. With the #4 soundbox & that horn this would be great player of electric & acoustic discs.

I already have a HMV #32 with a rebuilt #4 and the results are wonderful. Hopefully some one will realize this 511 is a good buy. In Britain it would probably have been sold by now.

The 511 also had one famous devotee:

Edward Elgar’s 511

I am near enough Charlotte I could, but I don't have enough room unless I sold my XIV.

I know it's a great buy, but I do not have the space at the moment.

Being British I am of course biased, but I would buy the HMV511 now and sell the Victrola XIV.
You could easily buy another XIV when space permits, but when will you see another 511?
The 511 was a top of the range machine and one of HMV's most elegant designs. Go for it!

@epigramophone, I'm afraid I can't. I do not have anywhere to put it, it's hard to sell a VV-XIV, and I really have a ridiculous sentimental attachment to the Victrola I already own because it was my first talking-machine.

Someone needs to go pick it up though. That thing is NICE.
