Joe Ginn's Wedding around 1955

Post by chunnybh »

Here are two pictures taken at Joe Ginn's wedding around 1955.
So good to finally put some faces to these people.
According to "The EMG Story", Ben Phillips committed suicide in 1926 but there he is sitting on the floor with Joe Ginn's daughter Chrissy. He did commit suicide after his son Clive was killed in a car crash, that must have been post 1955. Most probably a confused family story.

I was thrilled to have been contacted by Chrissy Ginn. She sent me these pics and has been invaluable with identifying some pictures in Franks mountain of paperwork. I'm trying to get her to write a page on her experiences and recollections of living at Ingerthorpe.
For example, she remembers meeting Mr Grundig who bought what was left of EXPERT. I'm hoping to receive a picture of "Joe Ginn racing his hand built Austin Special at Silverstone. Joe took me round the block in it when he had finished build.".
Also coming soon is an hour long audio file of Dave Phillips being interviewed by Edward Creese Jr.
All very exciting.

Joe Ginn was in contact with my old fried Philip Lewis years ago, and said he wanted to write all about the Expert firm, and got as far as sending Philip several handwritten letters,( which I have here), over a prolonged period about what he (Joe) had experienced in his lifetime, but he was, it seems never able to find enough information to write a substantial amount about the firm, other than mainly his own personal experiences, and some of the stock info. that was available.
About Dave Phillips now. My old pal George Overstall, not too long before he passed away, suggested to me that we ought to visit Dave Phillips, so that George could make a tape recording of Dave Phillip's experience in the gramophone world with Ginn and the others. I well remember about a fortnight before we were due to travel to see Dave Phillips, we were sent the sad news that he had died. We also heard from a source, that when Dave Phillip's home weas cleared, that no evidence, paper or otherwise was found in the house-nothing at all. Whether this was correct or not, we never found out.

Sorry picture is sideways-cannot understand it as it was upright before sending!" I discovered this lino cutting, which I must had cut when I was either in my teens or soon afterwards. It was never really meant to be printed off, because, as you will all see it is direct test cut, and not fit to print, as it would be back-to-front from the real trademark if printed!
I wish you ALL on the TALKING MACHINE FORUM a good Christmas, and happy collecting in 2023. What shall we find!-the excitement is already here!
