Just came across another neat article by Ulysses "Jim" Walsh, written for the August, 1952 issue of The American Record Guide (a classical record collectors' magazine since 1934). It is basically a history of Edison's involvement with the phonograph, so I thought it would be of interest to all of you.
By the way, to make the document easier to read, you might wish to rotate the document to the right (I should have done that before uploading, sorry!).

Yes, thanks for posting this. It's fun to read such articles in the context of the time when they were written. Jim Walsh was hampered by the information available to him, such as the August 1877 date of the invention. Unfortunately, he also got Edward Johnson's name wrong (Richardson?), which is curious. Once again, I'm thankful (and puzzled) that scholarship has improved the farther away we move from the dates of the original events!

It seems that Mr. Walsh had collected much more information on the subject, see page 363: "It would be fascinating to trace in detail the marvelous development of the phonograph from its crude beginning to the present day, but space forbids." What happened to his files?!
