David Phillips interviews

Post by chunnybh »

David Phillips helped design EMG and EXPERT gramophones. He was in charge of "tuning" the soundboxes.

There are two interviews:
  • From cassette tape of Joe Pengelly talking to Dave Phillips about the tuning of acoustic soundboxes at his home in South Devon 20th Jan 1978. Duration 2min 18 sec
  • Over an hour long interview by Edward Creese Jr and a pdf transcript.
They are large files and can be downloaded from my site:

Thank you, Chunny. Very interesting listens!

My Expert Senior "Special" pedestal model belonged to Edward Creese, Snr., so it's fascinating to hear Edward Creese, Jnr., talking about his father and his involvement with Expert. I'd heard a lot directly from Frank but it is great to hear from those voices of the past who were there back in the day.

I don't have a clue how long ago this was recorded but is Edward Creese, Junior, still alive?

Here is a pic for Steve.
Edward Creese and either Lew or Ben Phillips. I'm told Ben and Lew looked alike.

Thank you, Chunny. I only had the one picture of him previously which Frank gave me as he was quite particular about such matters: "Mr Creese should go with his machine". He has the one arm. The picture above predates his infamous accident.
