It’s ok. Because I got it off!!! It wasn’t as hard as I thought it was gonna be lol. I tend to fret a bit when something difficult happens but it worked out much better than I hoped. PB Blaster works wonders…52089 wrote: Fri Nov 11, 2022 4:57 pm It looks like you at least managed to get the flange insert to rotate a bit and the pin now appears to line up with the "groove" on the U-tube. That's good. If you are having trouble wiggling it loose at that point, you may want to try one other thing. Take a flat screwdriver, put the blade against the insert, and GENTLY tap the edge of it, working your way all around the ring. If that doesn't work, then yeah, it's probably time for the Dremel.

You have to stop panicking every time you encounter a minor obstacle. It's not the end of the world. Most of us have been there, done that. Many other collectors have encountered similar issues and overcome them. Take advantage of their knowledge. I'm glad PB Blaster worked for you. I haven't had much luck with it, although I've tried it, and I have a can in the garage. I've even tried the home brew Acetone/ATF mix, and it didn't work any miracles either. I had a tough, rusted nut on a leaf spring shackle on an ancient car, and the the only thing that ultimately worked was a pipe wrench and a breaker bar. Sometimes it takes many attempts to solve the problem. Edison was famous for his tenacity!

I’ve mentioned over the years I have an anxiety issue. I’m worried about doing something stupid and damaging it worse because I’ve been burned in the past and I need guidance and assurance I’m doing something correctly.AZ* wrote: Sat Nov 12, 2022 1:53 am You have to stop panicking every time you encounter a minor obstacle. We've all done things that ended up worse than when we began. That's part of life and of learning. You're no different in that respect, except that perhaps you worry about it more. A bad outcome is no great tragedy. It's never fun, but we move on and do what we can to put things right again. In the case of woodworking, when I'm in doubt of a certain outcome, I press on and work my plan anyway, telling myself if I screw it up, there's a whole lot more trees out there. Just grab another piece of wood and start over. Don't be too hard on yourself

Well it’s good I didn’t damage any parts to my Victrola. BUT I did end up causing damage to my Columbia long throat reproducer for my Standard X instead trying to take that apart. Because I was planning to put new gaskets in it with my Exhibition and ordered extra feet of tubing so I can put gaskets in that too, but I ended up breaking the needle bar trying to get the diaphragm out.JerryVan wrote: Sat Nov 12, 2022 6:51 pm Andy,

But no worries! I did buy an already rebuilt Columbia long throat from eBay so when I get that my Standard X will be playing better than ever!
Sometimes you gotta take the easy but expensive route!

Re: Stuck Exhibition Reproducer
I am glad you got this sorted out. This was a real pain for me as well back when I first posted this. It's funny to see this ancient thread I started years ago pop up again! I play the XVI all the time, even more so now that I pulled out the Christmas records. I too was very stressed about getting that flange off, but only because the plating is in such nice shape on the XVI. Your XIV seems to be in similarly good condition!AmberolaAndy wrote: Fri Nov 11, 2022 6:43 pmIt’s ok. Because I got it off!!! It wasn’t as hard as I thought it was gonna be lol.
