Arrived today, a souvenir porcelain dish of the 1889 Paris Expo, showing the demonstration of recorded sound to amazed visitors.

An antique dealer in Paris, Steve. No bargain there, he knew what he had for sale and it is in great shape. It was made by the Utzschneider Sarreguemines factory, one of the well-known French pottery makers.

At that time (1889), the city and surroundings (Elsass-Lothringen / Alsace-Lorraine) belonged to Germany and was known as Saargemünd...

True, no wonder the street names in several towns in Alsace are all bilingual French-German even today. But the factory kept producing and selling to French customers irrespective of which country it was, as well as expanding to other places in Germany and Luxembourg.
