I almost hit the buy now button then I noticed that! It doesn't make any sense; what use is the cabinet without the mechanism?! Madness :x

He definitely saved me from myself, as I really haven't got room for that hulking cabinet 😆

This is the first HMV Automatic that I've seen with electric amplification! Must be really rare!
I hope someone buys this intact. The low price is remarkable IMO.

They do indicate the cabinet can be negotiated for... Go on, you know you want to! 😁

Unless I'm misunderstanding this, the whole thing IS for sale it's just that the seller thinks in all probability that anyone would only want the moving parts and not the cabinet?

If you want the whole thing it's for sale under £600 but you have to collect, which is understandable as he can't post that cabinet!

Yes, I spoke to them yesterday and advised they relist as a whole. Glad they did! It was advertised as parts only sans cabinet initially at £400.

If it was a bit closer, I'd have definitely gone for it. I hope it finds a good home!

Given that the machine has to be collected I would have expected the seller to have included his location in the listing, but all it says is "UK", which could mean pretty much anywhere. Distance? Fuel cost? Van hire? Possible overnight accommodation?
Having said that, what would you expect with a positive feedback score of only 92.9%? This alone should set the alarm bells ringing.
As for electrical amplification, the pictures show that the machine is fitted with an electric pickup head instead of a soundbox. Whether it has a built in amplifier, or whether it has to be connected to an external source, is something which needs clarification.

Personally I wouldn't want the thing as a gift. It is hideously complicated and hideous to look at. Possibly grounds for divorce.

According to what Carsten Fischer posted on myvintagetv, the electrically amplified model would have had a built-in amplifier --

In late 1929 the Model 1 changer was offered as a electrically amplified Gramophone with a 4 vacuum tube amplifier and an electrodynamic speaker at a price of £ 200 and over depending on options selected.

Hopefully, the seller can clarify whether this is an acoustic model that has been modified, or whether it was factory equipped for electrical amplification.
