HMV Portable on Antiques Road Show

Post by Lah Ca »

The portable was not the focus of the segment of the show.

It was used to play some music by the singer, Evelyn Dove, and was not spoken about.

Interesting machine. What is it?

They have the reproducer on the wrong side of the record. How precious....

I did not notice that when I took the screen shot. LOL

However, it was actually playing with the reproducer on the right side of the record earlier in the segment. The guy may have just set it down there after he had played part of a record, and then went on to discuss Evelyn Dove with the woman from the Road Show.

Thanks.
HMV 101 has HMV No.4 Soundbox, which is similar to Victor No. 4 reproducer.

Hmmm ... I was wrong and totally unobservant. You can get all uneasy and anxious again.

The guy is actually playing the record with the reproducer on the wrong side of the record, the needle acting as a gouge ripping up shellac shavings.

I know from experience that people in the UK drive on the other side of the roads. I do not believe, however, that they generally play records on the other side. ;)

Watch here. Oh, the horror!

I sent them an email with a link to that video, I'll post again if I get a response.
