FOR SALE: Recorders and Blanks - Various

Post by Phonomark »

Fellow Forum Members-

"Let's talk about recorders"...or is it "Let's listen to recorders"...?

I have a variety of recorders with shaved blank black and brown wax records available. None of the recorders are tested and I did not shave the records. This is just how I acquired them, so buy accordingly. But I am giving the best detailed description I can based on what I see as follows:
  • Item A - Edison Recorder with recorder box and shaved black wax record in period correct box. Good nickel plating on steel body. Fits in carriage nicely. Appears to have a good cutter and diaphragm. Light rust on cutter support but should not affect use. Good hinge and limit loop. Record box lid not original. SOLD
  • Item B - Edison Recorder with recorder box and shaved black/brown wax record in period correct box. Good nickel plating on steel body. Fits in carriage nicely. Appears to have a good cutter and diaphragm. Good hinge. Limit loop needs a little tweaking to be straight. Record box lid not original. Cool repair tag from 1913 in box. Moved to Ebay
  • Item C - Edison Recorder (no recorder box) and shaved black wax record in period correct box. Good nickel plating on steel body. Fits in carriage nicely. Has cutter and diaphragm. Cutter length appears a little short but may still work. Diaphragm so so. Good hinge and limit loop. Good candidate for a new cutter tip, gaskets, and diaphragm. Record box lid not original. $145
  • Item D - Edison Recorder with recorder box and shaved black wax record in period correct box. Recorder box number matches the recorder serial number. Pot Metal body with decent nickel plating that shows some fracturing. Does not fit in carriage. Needs about .040 taken off circumference. Appears to have a good cutter and diaphragm. Good hinge and limit loop. Good candidate for a restoration. Record box lid not original. $115
  • Item E - Columbia floating recorder with recorder box and shaved brown wax record in period correct Edison box. Recorder in excellent condition. Nice cutter and support. Nice diaphragm. Hard recorder to find with cutter intact. $205
ADD $8 to each recorder for USPS Priority Mail Postage.

Okay Fellow Forum Members

I just reduced the price of each recorder with blank cylinder record by $20 each. Think about..it's a good deal if you are looking to add a recorder to your collection or want to try recording on a nicely shaved blank.

I'm a little confused

Are C and D 4 minute recorders because black wax blanks were 4 minute blanks and don't really work well with a 2 minute recorder because the wax is too hard.

Well...good question.

I thought that the records were two minute because they have the same eased top like a typical early 2 minute black wax record. But the inside ribs are round and not spiral as one would expect in a 2 minute record. I have had 4 minute Edison blanks before, but they all have had imprinted writing on the top as per the attached picture. The ones I have pictured in this listing do not have this writing on top.

If interested, I can swap out records with some brown wax ones that I have.
