I don't get that but then again the pictures are crap and it's difficult to make out but is that a large screw wedged under the stylus bar? Someone's idea of a repair? What do you think happened?

I think it's a golf tee which has been 'jammed in' to reduce 'rattle' and volume.

Seems like it's been there for quite a while.
