Ok I think the treads are screwed up here. I tried my best to line up the holes but the screw won’t stay in.

Try loosening, but not removing, the 3 screws you already put in. That should free up the plate enough to align it with the 4th hole and allow you to put the 4th screw in. Then, tighten them all.

Just re-read your posting. So, one of the screws is stripped?

I think so? Is there any tips on how to put the gears on without them moving out of place with their holes? I am STRUGGLING to get things in place. I try to put one thing in place then two things get out of place!! 😑

I sent a message to Dyslexic Genius Hurt (Cheryla) hopefully he Will have a video about assembling an eagle back together.

Andy,
I just posted a suggested technique for reassembling the plates and shafts over at the APS Forum where you also asked for help:

Good luck!

Thank you George. I think I’ll continue when I get my speed control screw.

Ok now I’m seeing what I’m doing wrong. I gotta assemble the gear part FIRST after I secure the spring barrel (I tried other screws and they won’t secure down either in that hole). I misread its the Feedscrew GEAR that comes first! Not the feedscrew itself! 😅

Ok! PHEW! it’s all together!!
After a great deal of fussin’ n cussin…the mechanism is all together and running!

The only issue I see now is the brake leather has hardened and it slows down the governor but not totally pausing the governor.

Like I said there are spots where the Nickel finish had worn off. This was quite a well loved machine and was someone’s very first machine in the late 1890s.

I’m gonna go take a nap now.

Andy, a drop of oil on that governor pad will soften it up and improve its performance.

And the speed control screw which I ordered with the case should help a bit too.

Ok. If the case comes without the screws to secure the mechanism to the base, what kinda screws can I use from the hardware store?
