Columbia Gothic P-11 15th Century at estate sale

Post by thatonejohn »

Went to an estate sale this morning to check this out, little bit out of my price range given the lack of knowledge I have on it. Only info I could find regarding this model is the little bit in Baumbach's book, and an advertisement on eBay.

Is there more information on these period design models anywhere? and what sort of value would this have? it's a project that needs a little bit of woodworking and is missing the tonearm/turntable/motor/horn, and the record storage in the left compartment. Is it possible to find an electric motor assembly and horn?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, it's quite the piece of furniture that needs some love

If the tag on the floor is the price it's overpriced by at least $800 in the shape it's in.

Is the grille still there? Behind the door. On most of these Period models you pull down the door and push it back inside the cabinet to turn it on.
The electric version of that motor is not an easy one to find either. At least the lamp and needle holder is still there, they're usually gone when it's been modernized.

That's the rug price tag, and your suggestion is the general ballpark I am thinking would be reasonable (but I also have no info to base my reasonableness on).

No grille present, I wasn't able to open the door, so I stuck my phone in behind the turntable and took a photo

Forgive my ignorance, but is the Dual record player an upgrade?

"Upgrade" is a word that's used a lot these days when someone has botched over a nice original piece by jamming in some "updated" technology. That's what's happened here. In the historical sense, it's been ruined through the addition of that "modern" turntable. Hopefully, someone will undertake to truly upgrade it by putting it right again.

Dual turntables are nice, but I’d rather have it with most of my other stereo equipment and find a way to get the parts that belong in there if it’s possible.
