For Sale: VV 8-30 $175

Post by gunnarthefeisty »

This is a fairly nice 8-30 I have had for a few months now. There are quite a few high points; the finish is still quite shiny, and it's in the less-common (I am hesitant to say rare) gunmetal finish. I believe this is a late 1926 machine, as many of the original records are from 1926 and it does have the offset turntable and record holder on the left. The pot metal reproducer has been rebuilt professionally- the bearings replaced and greased, and the rear isolator replaced as well, and really does sound great. There's a few small cracks in the rear plate of the reproducer but it's solid and won't be coming apart any time soon. I have not touched the motor or the air pots. The motor runs smoothly, but it does occasionally "thump". This doesn't affect play, but can shake the floor a little. The air pots do keep the lid up, they just don't let it sink back down. While the finish is nice there are a few scratches and scrapes. I haven't cleaned it, but goop/gojo should help with these spots and if that doesn't completely fix it, a touch of restor-a-finish will most certainly. The plating is quite nice on the tonearm (the only gold plated piece) and the paint/finish on the gunmetal parts is also in great shape. The grille cloth is all original and all there, and the grille itself has no damage at all. The tonearm bracket WAS damaged but the man I bought it from did some sort of repair to hold it together. I don't quite know how he did it, but it holds up the tonearm and isn't terribly visually jarring. I'd be happy to help get this out to someone's car or truck but if you come to buy it you're going to have to help move it. I do apologize for the wall of text but I really want to go over everything I could for a buyer. Please DM or ask a question in this thread if you need to know anything else. I will be posting photos and a video or two in a few hours.
Reposting this since it won't let me change the title on my other post. This no longer has the records or the record albums.
Thanks,
Gunnar

I am surprised this isn't sold yet. Not too long ago, these were selling for MUCH higher.

I sure hope not. Someone needs to go get this. I would if I didn't already have one.

Open to offers. I really don't want to part it out, but I'm starting to think I've no other choice.

Very nice VV8-30. Somebody should get it!! I have 4 credenzas, which I love very much. People should know how amazing sound they can produce. It is a shame that people are so ignorant.
