I can't believe anyone would strip that back to bare wood in order to refinish it so it can look like every other plain boring (refinished) Victor coffin out there.

That paint job, while not exactly to my taste, is incredibly in vogue today and contemporary. We see this stuff everywhere now! It also appears ro have been done incredibly well by someone gifted with the necessary skills. It's part of its history and makes it more interesting to me. Let it be I say.

I'm inclined to agree, although I'd probably have to live with it for a while to decide.

It sold for $500! I think that's a terrific deal. It was only 45 minutes from my home but I didn't have the means to bid on it. Would loved to have gotten it and I would have left it the way it is.

More's the pity you couldn't buy it then. I fear for its future now.

Don't worry, all you need are some old rusted brushes, a gallon of paint stripper, an industrial sander, some old rags, and a few pints of mahogany stain varnish to make it as good as new ! No bother at all !

I'm sure the electronics will cost a penny.

Not really that bad. Power tube is expensive if bad or missing, and same with the power transformer. Chuck Azzalina can rebuild the electrical pickup. If the pickup wire is bad, fishing a proper new one is a job.

But the biggest challenge on these is the pot metal gears for the antenna rotation and the horn throat valve.
