Possibly an early version of HMV 100

I think this could be an early version of the HMV 100 as it has the lid stay on the left hand side and the record storage area seems to be held by cloth and not metal.

For Petes sake, this is getting ridiculous; how many flaming 100's can people put on Ebay at the same time? I remember a time when the 100 was quite rare and seldom seen for sale. There are currently now four for sale including two odd side winders and this very early example and yet we've seen some "standard" examples sell recently too.

What next, a red leather gold plated one? Before anyone tells me they never made one, let me say I don't believe you.

By the way this one is a very early example; it pre-dates Jesus Christ himself!

Funny thing though, I feel the same way about front wind HMV 101's. I read about how they were only produced for a short period of time so a long time ago I bought one - and yet they seem to continuously 'pop up' for sale with monotonous regularity !

The 101's relatively short production run (1925-1931) coincided with the peak period of portable sales, so it is very common.
The 102's much longer run (1931-1960) coincided with a period when sales of acoustic machines were steadily declining.

I believe poodling around was referring specifically to FRONT-WINDING 101's.

Sold for £ 70, which for such an early version is quite cheap I think.

As always, had the seller included postage it would probably have sold for much more.

It would have been incredibly cheap had it not been in quite rough condition. Had it been better I would have bid on it. The winner bid it up 3 times already against no other competition so I presume his high bid was significantly higher than £70. Happy days for him then!
