Found (kind of): HMG Book by Proudfoot & Oakley

Post by Lee »

Looking for a copy of "His Master's Gramophone", by Proudfoot & Oakley. Have heard that an updated version is possibly in the works, but don't know for sure. Would like to have a hardcover copy to use now for study. Book doesn't have to be in pristine condition. Please send a direct email to [email protected]
Thanks! ;)

Brian Oakley has responded and said that they are considering a short reprint of about 250 copies to be done later this year. There is a waiting list and if you want to be put on it you can email Brian at: [email protected]
He gave me permission to let people know this.
Thanks! :D

There has been an updated version "in the works" for a while now.

Have you tried the UK gramophone enthusiasts group on Facebook?

I will be meeting one of the authors next month, and will ask him whether there is any truth in the rumours of a second edition.

I know that Christopher Proudfoot is, or at least used to be, active here. I don't know what his username is, but we corresponded a few years ago and he mentioned he'd seen some discussion about HMV portables or soundboxes or something that I had participated in.

That being said, it would be nice if a) there is an updated version in the works, and b) if a digital version would also be available. (I am currently half a globe away from where my hardcover books are being stored, and having something I could access remotely in the meantime would be very helpful...)

Roger, Brian told me last year at Malvern that an update is in their plan, possibly for this year. Maybe you can check the progress of the new issue.

If there is a second edition planned, I hope they improve the layout/format of the book. The organization of it seems a bit haphazard. :coffee:
