WANTED: VICTOR VV-50 PORTABLE

Post by Steve »

Hello to my fellow collectors,

I'm looking for a really smart VV-50 in either oak or mahogany (although mahogany is preferable), early or late example. I'm more interested in finding a great condition, unrestored, complete and working example than anything else.

I'm in the UK so international shipping is a must. Please PM me if you have a machine for sale.

Thanks for looking!

Please kindly hurry as it seems no one else will offer me anything in the meantime because of your very public promise! ;)

Anyone? Otherwise it looks like it's back to Ebay for me as I haven't received anything concrete yet from any member here.

As one person in particular is now bizarrely refusing to sell me their machine following sight of phonojim's post above, it feels necessary to emphasise to that person and anyone else looking to sell, that I am open to offers from anyone irrespective of your nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political persuasion, gender or age, so long as you have a VV-50 for sale. Yes, I'm fully inclusive!

I'll wait patiently to buy the first one offered to me at a realistic price. As soon as I find one, I will gladly ask for this thread to be deleted.

Have a great day and thank you for reading!

As a particular individual is now oddly refusing to sell me their machine following sight of phonojim's post above, I felt it was necessary to stress this point so to that person and anyone else looking to sell, I'd like to confirm that I'm open to offers from anyone from any nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political persuasion, gender or age anywhere with a VV-50 for sale. Yes, I'm fully inclusive!

This is not a closed shop and I'll wait patiently to buy the first one offered to me at a realistic price. As soon as I find one and the deal is done, I will delete this thread so you are not wasting your time. So rest assured, you won't have to get up out of your chair and pull that VV-50 out of the closet for nothing!

Have a great day and thank you for reading!
I must admit that I really do like these machines. They remind me of some of the India Teak gramophones.

I don't want to set this thread off at a tangent (as I assume that you are still looking to buy one ?) but quickly wonder - are they really much better built (and larger) versions of the HMV model 100 ?

I really like them too and that's why I'd like to buy one but the best place to do that, I've been told, is probably direct from another collector who has a "spare" to sell, hence my ad here. The examples currently offered on Ebay are not good and I've been informed reliably that they are stupidly over-priced, which is why some of them have been for sale for years. I'm happy to wait until someone comes along with a good example at a fair price and is happy to ship overseas. It might be a long wait but as you know I'm not exactly short of new machines at the moment!

As for their quality I don't doubt they are better than a 100 and more impressive to look at but unlike most HMV machines they were made by the truckload and sold in the tens of thousands. They really ought to be a lot cheaper than the Ebay sellers value them at.

No, it's a little disappointing that no one has offered me one yet so I'm still looking, yes.
