For now I’ll just leave it as it is. I think for me it’s just knowing that there could potentially be something wrong with it and it’s making me a bit paranoid to play it before checking with an expert if everything is in order..

Don't be afraid to play it. If you like, just add a few drops of oil to the gears and the bearings of any moving parts. There's really nothing you're going to do that will damage it. They're not all that delicate.
