But I helped. Never mind that the ocean water off of Florida is currently as hot as the spa in your back yard and is parboiling the coral to oblivion. Never mind that storms and flooding and the hottest global temperatures ever recorded are upon us right now, today.
I have converted all of my phonographs to Stirling engine power, which means I have Bunsen burners alllll over the house, and need to crank up the a/c commensurately.
https://youtu.be/rV5-s3b_0S0 (not mine, but you get the idea…)
I’m gonna sit in the parking lot and the drive-through line with my gas engine idling away anyway, because I need to have the car air conditioning on to escape this damn heat, of course, silly!
Somehow, though - like others on this forum - I AM NOT CULPABLE!
But now the reality.
We are on our second electric car. We installed a $400 charger on the side of the house, running a very fat extension cord to the 3-phase outlet for the electric dryer. $2 of electricity for 100 miles of driving. Charge overnight in our own driveway.
Never ever have to deal with any of this, ever again:
- pumping gas
- the entire filthy gas station experience
- oil changes
- brake pad replacement
- the related time and money and hassle required for doing those things
- vehicle maintenance of any kind other than tires and wiper blades
Plus we eventually get to stop sending armies overseas to protect the oil supply.
We rented a Tesla Model 3 recently from Hertz. The rate was comparable to an ICE car. We put 550 miles on it in 2 days. Comfortable, effortless charging, and easy in every way. The charging infrastructure is already in place and continues to be built out. The Model Y Tesla small SUV is currently (pun intended) the top selling vehicle in the US, beating out the next two (both Toyotas).
Other major carmakers are making their vehicles compatible with the Tesla infrastructure now, as well as the existing non-Tesla public chargers.
Old movies sometimes show folks shouting “get a horse!” at early cars as they chugged past. Hear an echo?

No brake pad replacement? EV's have to stop, too!

Re: I DID NOT CAUSE GLOBAL WARMING
Regenerative braking, which turns the motors into generators and puts the energy back into the battery, is standard. One-pedal driving is possible and quite easy once you’re used to it. There are brake pads but you hardly ever use them.

Re: I DID NOT CAUSE GLOBAL WARMING
I just swapped out my 100 amp breaker for a 200 amp breaker so that we can charge our LEAF faster. Was quoted $4,500 for the switch which is ridiculous so I just went and bought my own panel for $200 and did the work myself one day. Last step is to get an electrician to swap out the breaker and wire at the meter but that shouldn't be $4,500!!
It's been really nice driving past gas stations as the cost of gas is rising and knowing that I can just plug it in at home. Yeah, costs something like 11 cents a KWH to charge so it's a no-brainer. Sadly, VT isn't set up well for long distance travel, not many reliable level 3s set up across the state. Hoping that changes soon.

Re: I DID NOT CAUSE GLOBAL WARMING
I could charge an EV in my garage overnight, but many people living in flats etc without off street parking could not.
They must rely on expensive public charging points, the vast majority of which are in the London area.
The provision of charging points elsewhere in the UK is haphazard, hence the term "range anxiety" on long journeys.
Never mind cars. A worse polluter is air travel, discharging gases straight into the upper atmosphere, but because air travel is international no single government can legislate to control it. Unlike motor fuel, aviation fuel is untaxed because international agreement on how to tax it would be impossible to achieve.
Then there is the biggest cause of global warming, the one which the environmental lobby seldom mentions. It is overpopulation.

Re: I DID NOT CAUSE GLOBAL WARMING
The greatest level of pollution will be caused by the forced electric vehicle production and unnecessary scrapping of combustion engine propelled existing cars. Never mind the environmental cost / damage in the production of lithium batteries and their disposal not too many years down the line.

Yeah.
Except none of that is true.
Poke around and check the science a little bit, before repeating oil company propaganda.
Here’s a decent summary of European studies, for example:

I say quit stallion and whinnying around, and use your horse sense. No need to be a neigh-sayer any longer, Mr. Ed!
