Wow, has this topic gone astray.......but that being said, I have heard my entire life that the power infrastructure in the U.S. is inadequate. Brownouts, burnouts, blackouts, etc. going back to the mid-60's. But somehow the capacity situation usually catches up. Electric companies want to sell more electricity, that's their business. In the mid-90's, our state power company Florida Power & Light (FPL) had an active program to promote electric cars. It fizzled and died, until true entrepreneurs got involved years later and now it seems to be an irreversible force. England may be different, but maybe not.
