VV 8-7 turntable brake

I was working on my VV 8-7 and noticed that the turntable brake is missing. It would be the one for the automatic brake shut off. I compared it to some of my spare brakes and the three holes are a little different in spacing. Does anyone have a VV 8-7 that could post a picture of the brake? The tone arm is also missing the post to trigger the brake but I can find that. Thanks, Ken Brekke

Thanks for the pictures. Not sure why the mounting holes for the brake on my 8-7 don't line up with what yours looks like. A collector friend has a brake like yours that I can try out. I hope to do that in the next few days. These are great sounding machines.

Good luck. I always have trouble with my break tripping too soon or not at all. They definitely are finicky, but none the less are great when working properly. An owner must have gotten tired of messing with it and just took it off.

A local collector friend gave me a brake to try. The mounting holes don't line up to the holes in the motor board. Is there another style of brake?

Could it be one of the semi-automatic brakes with U fork that you must adjust prior to playing? The former version so frequent in Victrolas of the 1910s-1920s?
This is one, but there were versions with different arm length

Ken, call me when you get the chance. I think I might have an answer... there aren't supposed to be three holes, only two. The smallest one is a mistake... your replacement brake is missing the two mounting screws.

Well, the mystery continues. I tried to position the brake given to me in the same location as the one in Vince's post. None of the holes line up and the turntable is contacting the brake mechanism. I checked to see if the felt washers were too thick underneath on the motor mounts. They are correct. There must be another style brake for this model.

You have the right brake for the 8-7. The Victor parts listing verifies it as No.19950BAB. The AB refers to the antique bronze finish, notice similar part numbers with other finishes. NG for nickel gloss, GP for gold plated. They would be interchangeable.

One of the holes was for the shipping bracket that secured the tonearm. The two missing holes to mount the brake are a mystery.

The right-most column lists the where-used information, this is very useful when searching for a donor part.
